December 31st…
Yet again, the New Year is knocking at our doors. And here I am, not so pleased at all. Why? Because I hate to believe that time passes so fast. A whole year has passed by me and I am here in the strands of welcoming a new year, which I hope will bring prosperity in my life! I am not happy because this year I will complete my 21st birthday. That means, I will be running in my 22nd year. It’s so painful. I would prefer calling myself 20 years old. Really… But, in a serious note, recalling back last year 2007 brings back mixed memories and happy stories.
I think this year passed too fast, or maybe I got a bit busies this year. Well, I worked a lot this year, that’s true. My year started with me traveling to Benaras and it has ended with a nationwide travel. I went out of town a lot this year. I visited almost forty districts of Nepal to showcase theatre and went to India thrice to participate in theatre festivals. We also had two foreign theatre groups from Netherlands and Australia come to Nepal and perform for us. Actually, this year, I was totally immersed in the world of theatre and I guess I also have eventually landed to my destination- theatre and movies! I think this is the place where I was destined to be- creating magic and translating visions into realities. About my writing stuff, I haven’t fared good at it. I haven’t been writing much at all. No stories written this year- which means I am falling back. Only few articles published in some leading papers. But have been regular with SPACES. I actually also wanted to start a column with Enasha.com entitled “Up and Coming”. Don’t know why things are just not working for it. Abhinav Dai wants me to interview some top notch son of a leading business man. But I don’t want to start this way. I rather want to start with Subel Dai or Shitu. They’ve made their path themselves and I really admire them. I hope things will work out next year. With SPACES, it is always about interviewing entrepreneurs. Co-incidentally, this year, I featured many women entrepreneurs and yes, grasped lots of inspirations from them. Salute to Shanti Chadha and even pretty and young Prerna Shah. Amar Dai’s gone to States…sad news. But I will always cherish him. Heard that Infotiser’s closed too. It’s a loss that this year has gifted. But I was glad to be featured among one of the young fiction writers on one of its cover stories. Hehe..
This year we also initiated a movement with Mr. Karna Shakya- a man that I will always idolize. This was something from which we all had huge expectations but to the contrary, things went downfall. Lots of bickering ruled too. And yes, Uncle landed up with Cancer. Sad thing! I also had an experience of organizing a poetry recitation program which eventually turned out good on the hills of Gurukul. Also was involved with some projects of TNW- something that was too fun. Made some good friends there…
And the year ended with my involvement in this huge project funded by UNMIN and UNFPA. Being a production manager was something that I loved doing. It was an experience for me to get involved from the scratch to the end of the project. And we have come out as a winner after all the stress and hard work!
Thanks to Sarwanam, I got to do lots of things this year which I never had indulged in. The most I loved about my work this year was that I was in a position where I could conceptualize projects and translate them into realities. I still have some baby projects in mind which I really want to do. But, somehow things are yet not working out. Want to do a Malaysian Theatre Festival and a Youth Theatre Festival in Kathmandu. Maybe next year! Next year, I will also join Anup Dai’s theatre course. It is one of the extensive theatre courses in Nepal.
Works apart, my personal life was nothing more than an empty box, this year. I spent the whole year with my family, had minimum interaction with friends. I hardly went to any gatherings and parties. I kind of even lost in touch with some of my close friends. I don’t know why. But yes, watched lots of movies this year- lots! Watched lots of theatre too. Loved Dad’s works the most. I think he is a true genius….Read lots of books this year, my favorite being- Peter Brook’s Outer Space.
Well, well, I also have lazed a lot this year, doing absolutely nothing but watching television the whole day. Hehe…And at an ending note, I just hope I can throw away my laziness in 2008 and work more and more!
